About the Sustainability Fund

This new fund will finance projects that promote sustainable development and reduce the University’s impact on the climate.

""

Lund University has big goals to reduce the negative impact on the climate and environment of its operations. At the same time, there is great potential to harness new ideas and use our organisations as test beds for developing sustainable solutions for society as a whole.

A university-wide fund for ecological, social and economic sustainability

Starting in autumn 2022, all students and staff will have the opportunity to apply for funding for the development of ideas from the university-wide fund. The fund will support ideas in all aspects of sustainability, including ecological, social and economic aspects.

By supporting ideas at an early stage, research can contribute to a positive societal transition. The Sustainability Fund will support improvement, innovation and creation by:

  • Enabling Lund University to act as a test bed for new solutions.
  • Supporting the development of ideas by students and employees.

Climate footprint fee in the long run

A total of SEK 12 million has been earmarked for the fund to cover the period 2022-2024. In the long-term, the fund will be financed by a fee associated with each organisation’s total climate footprint. In the start-up phase, funding will come from the Akademihemman Foundation, a foundation that manages agricultural properties that have been owned by the University for centuries.

The Sustainability Fund is run by a collaboration between LU Innovation, Sustainability Forum and LU Estates.
